Tomoka Bird Banding Station, located on a spoil island within Tomoka State Park, has been in operation since October 2004.  Tomoka State Park is located on North Beach Street between the Halifax and Tomoka Rivers in Ormond Beach, Florida.  The days and hours vary but are much more frequent during Fall and Spring migrations.  VISITORS ARE ALWAYS WELCOME

Please Contact Meret Wilson at mileybug@aol.com for days and hours of operation.  Meret is a Federal, State and locally licensed bander.  She is holding a recently banded Northern Cardinal at the right.

Activities:
April 1-2, 2010

April 1:  It was a strange day today.  I decided to stay around the park and see what the activity was in the afternoon and there was a couple with a friend and a young boy who were dying to see what bird banding was about.  We did catch one unbanded Carolina Wren and Trevor helped me with bag weight, writing on the data sheet, etc.  Nice for them to see.  As I was finally folding up the nets, I found a tear that really needed to be taken care of so I headed back to the table to get the mending equipment when I spied SEVEN Northern Bobwhites.  I have heard them call only 3 times in 6 years so I knew there had to be at least one pair somewhere.  Joe Isaac said he saw 2 this past spring.  Well, now I have photos of them to document they really do exist!!!!
