Our December program will be a film by George Sibley called “Listening to Owls.” Mexican Spotted Owls like this are one of the iconic birds of the desert southwest, but they are now classified a "Threatened Species" under the Endangered Species Act. For the past few years, the National Park Service has developed a new, non-invasive way of studying these endangered birds. This film tells the story of how inexpensive audio recorders were adapted to listen to the owls for weeks at a time without human intervention, and how the technique has led a huge increase in information about the birds.
The meeting will be conducted over Zoom. A short informative meeting regarding club activities will follow, including a Christmas Bird Count review, news about the Great Backyard Bird Count in February and future field trips. Please join us!
